Fly Casting Instruction Rendezvous

Saturday, May 17, 2014 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. (Check In at 8:30 a.m.)

Learn to fly cast or improve your current level of casting from Certified Casting Instructors from the Upper Midwest Council of the IFFF

Fee: $20 per person: Youth between 10 & 16 years old are free with a paid adult.

(The fee includes use of our equipment if desired and snacks and water.)

Pre-registration and payment for this event is strongly encouraged but not required. Please see pre-registration form.


Schedule:


8:30 Check In and set up equipment

9:00 Casting Lessons begin in various groups: Beginners and Intermediate

Beginners will learn the basic mechanics of casting as well as fishable casts including: pick up and lay down casts, roll cast, line handling techniques and techniques to cast in windy conditions

Intermediate casters (those who can cast tight loops regularly) will learn more advanced techniques such as: presentation casts & mends, slack line casts, double and single haul, increasing distance and spey techniques if desired.

10:00 Break and Demo of Two handed Spey Casting

We plan to offer basic instruction in two handed spey casting for those who are interested.

10:45 Casting Lessons resume


11:30 Casting Games Begin: Games will be designed to improve accuracy, loop control, distance and presentation techniques. Plus they are fun!

1:00 End of Rendezvous:


Optional activity: To enjoy lunch together at a local restaurant. Lunch is not covered in the fee.


What to Bring:

  • Bring your own fly rod outfit to cast or use one of our instructional rods included in the fee.

  • Dress for changing weather conditions. We will cast rain or shine but not in lightning. (we do have a shelter and restrooms available)

  • Bring coffee or soda to drink if you prefer.

  • Must have eye protection, regular or sun glasses or use our goggles.

  • Wear a hat

  • Sunscreen

  • A “can-do attitude”
