What are Aquatic Invasive Species?

Many of our waters have been invaded by organisms transplanted from other areas.  These aquatic invasive species damage ecosystems by out competing native species.  Most invasive species have no natural predators to keep their populations under control.  These aquatic invasive species can quickly take over an aquatic habitat choking out other life.

Many different aquatic invasive species impact our waters and new species continue to be introduced.  Once established it is almost impossible to eradicate invasive species.  Millions of dollars are spent each year in this effort.  Prevention is the key to controlling aquatic invasive species.  We must all work together to stop the spread of these invaders.
